    Default 2.2 Dimma Hdi

Although progress will be slow to start with, I thought I would start a project thread so you can see the car and I can keep you all updated with anything that I do.

I picked the car up last weekend (19/2/12) from Andy, For those of you which dont know the car the specs are as follows:

It originally started out as an S16 with a factory fitted steel Dimma kit, but is now far from standard!

The car has had an engine change to a 2.2 16v Hdi out of a 406, which is fitted with a Garrett GT2256V Turbo (VNT from BMW) mounted above the gearbox with a custom stainless steel manifold, BMW *30d fuel pump, hybrid injectors, full stainless steel exhaust, charge cooler, oil cooler, oil catch tank and has been mapped by Lars Lübker!!

Handling wise on the front it is running a wide track Dimma suspension setup lowered on apex springs and the rear torsion bar lowered, and has been fitted with 4 pot Brembo calipers on the front from a Boxster, using 406 V6 discs.

Wheels are the standard Dimma compomotives.

Inside it has a full S16 half leather interior, has been converted to phase 3 Hdi dials, the centre heater vents have been replaced with an oil pressure/temp gauge and a boost gauge and it is fitted with a momo steering wheel.

Some pics of the car how i bought it:

And a short video of what it sounds like

I bought the car as a project and plans so far are:
Give it a good service and some tlc
Repair the heaters as it was a rather cold 340 mile journey home in temperature around 0 degrees C!!!!
Sort out the bodywork which will probaly result in a full resray
    Refurb the wheels
Sort out a few problems i have found
Tidy up a few things inside

    So keep watching for progress
Since getting the car home i have had a reasonable look over it, replaced the cam sensor plug as one of the wires broke off and changed the fuel filter.

Good luck with it mate. Hope you turn it into a real minter. I'd have loved to own this, but my pockets aren't deep enough to own or look after it

I would love to bring it to FCS but that all depends if its in a good enough condition by then, and also if I can get it there, as the only way i can insure it is to swap the insurance from my current hdi, which i dont want to do until i have got the car sorted!

Not really much of an update, but i booked it on for an MOT next monday, had a look at the windscreen washers and got them working again, and also gave it a wash as it was rather dirty!!!

I picked the Dimma up from the MOT station earlier and its bad news, 2 pages of failures!!

Some of them are easy repairs some arent so good!!

Front headlamps arent the same colour
    Nearside headlamp aim too high
    Offside headlamp aim too low
    Missing both side repeaters
    Brake load sensing valve seized
Nearside front brake hose excessively deteriorated
    Offside front brake hose twisted
Nearside rear brake hose excesively deteriorated
    Offside cv boot insecure
    Nearside cv boot deteriorated
    Offside front tyre
Nearside front antiroll bar drop link
Nearside ball joint has excessive play
Nearside rear trailing arm bush has excessive play
    Offside rear brake pipe leaking
    Side lights not working
    Number plate light not working
    Handbrake efficiency

Along with a list of advisories:

    Front and rear pads low
Lower suspension arms modified but not seriopusly weakened
    Steering rack modified
    Driveshafts modified
nearside front and rear tyres low
    Vehicle lowered
    No spare wheel

We also took it to the body shop today, and its going to be getting a full respray staying the same colour if it can be matched as its not the original colour of the car, all the dents sorted, all the rust sorted etc, its going to be rather expensive but should look amazing once it has been done!!!

a normal bj will be fine.

Wishbone.. You will need to refurb them with new bits.. you can buy new but they won't be cheap..

    ah okay thanks,

when I looked under the other day, I thought they looked different to a normal ball joint, and I thought that may be the case with the wishbone

Great to see this car being taken on by a club member, what sort of power expectations are you aiming to achieve, once completed?

As for power, im not going to try and get anymore out of it as I doubt the internals could take much more, my main aim is to tidy it up now and get it into a "perfect" car

They've got EBD and ABS instead, so I think it is needed on the earlier ones as the rears would lock up too early otherwise.
